It is an exciting time of the year for school students that have now completed their final days of year 12, and are heading off into the world. Tubal would like to extend our congratulations to our cohort of over 70 year 12 students that have achieved their WACE graduation requirements by completing a School-based Traineeship with us.

With WACE requirements stating that students must now complete a Certificate II level qualification in year 11 and 12 to receive their year 12 certificate, School-based Traineeships are on the rise. Tubal links with local employers to deliver training and assessment in the workplace, meaning students are earning a wage for the hours they are working, and are exposed to REAL operating businesses. This gives students an advantage as they are gaining experience in the workforce, and have a much greater opportunity for continued employment and training once they leave school.

Students graduating from our School-based Traineeship Program have undertaken one of either a Certificate II in Hospitality, Certificate II in Business, or a Certificate II in Retail. A high percentage of these students will be offered continued employment on a part-time or full-time basis now they have left school with employers such as Boost Juice, Rustico Tapas Bar, Sodexo, Theo & Co Pizzeria, City of Karratha and Muffin Break. Trainees were based in locations stretching from the Pilbara in WA’s north-west to Bunbury in the south-west.

To be eligible for a school-based traineeship,  students must be 15 years of age or older, be working an average of 8 hours or more per week (averaged over a 3 month period). Students must have the consent and support of both their parents and their school’s VET coordinator before enrolling. The traineeships are fully funded by the state and federal governments, and attract no enrolment fees for the trainee or the employer. The traineeships have a nominal duration period of 18 months, but as they are competency-based qualifications, they can usually be completed earlier.
