SIR20216 Certificate II in Retail Services

The SIR20216 Certificate II in Retail Services provides the skills and knowledge for participants in job roles such as sales assistant, customer service assistant, checkout operator.  Participants may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.  This qualification is suitable for VET in Schools and Workplace Traineeships.

Entry Criteria

There are no prerequisites for entry to this qualification.

CORE UNITS

Participants are required to complete all 7 core units listed below:

SIRXCOM001 Communicate in the workplace to support team and customer outcomes
SIRXIND001 Work effectively in a service environment
SIRXIND003 Organise personal work requirements
SIRXPDK001 Advise on products and services
SIRXRSK001 Identify and respond to security risks
SIRXWHS002 Contribute to workplace health and safety

ELECTIVE UNITS

Participants are required to complete minimum of 5 of the elective units listed below that apply to their job role:

SIRRINV001 Receive and handle retail stock
SIRRMER001 Produce visual merchandise displays
SIRRMER002 Merchandise food products
SIRXPDK002 Advise on food products and services
SIRXSLS002 Follow point-of-sale procedures
BSBWOR204 Use business technology
FSKLRG09 Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems
SIRXIND002 Organise and maintain the store environment
SIRXIND004 Plan a career in the retail industry

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Tubal offers all participants the opportunity to have existing skills and knowledge recognised through Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Current Competencies.  Participants may be eligible to receive RPL and RCC for units based on their work background, qualifications, working in the community, volunteering and life experiences (such as hobbies, sport and recreation).

Pathways

After achieving SIR20212 Certificate II in Retail Services, individuals may undertake:

SIR30212 Certificate III in Retail Operations

SIR30312 Certificate III in Retail Supervision

SIR30412 Certificate III in Business-to-Business Sales.

Assessment

Tubal’s Assessors will determine a participant’s competency against:

  • Answers to established underpinning knowledge questions
  • Performance feedback from Employer/Manager/Supervisor confirming participant is meeting all requirements of each unit of competency
  • Demonstrated performance of designated tasks by the participant
  • Participant self-assessment against designated tasks
  • Historical information pertaining to past experience and work history eg. Resume/CV and/or verbal details.
